Organic synthesis, pharmaceutical synthesis intermediates, monomethylation reagents.
Methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate is a very useful trifluoromethanesulfonate reagent in organic synthesis, and is often used as an alkylating reagent. The trifluoromethanesulfonyl group of trifluoromethanesulfonate compounds has a strong electron withdrawing ability, and its reaction activity is much higher than that of conventional alkylation reagents, such as chlorinated compounds or alkylsulfonates. Because these compounds are very active, only methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate is relatively stable, and other trifluoromethanesulfonate esters are prone to elimination, rearrangement and other side reactions, requiring synthesis and post-treatment under mild conditions.
